You have purchased a firearm that is just right for you, you have gotten great training on it’s use and maintenance, and you have also learned a few safety rules that you must observe at the Firing Range so that those around you can be reasonably safe.

Now, let’s think about some important rules to safeguard your eyes, to prevent hearing loss, and to avoid burns to your arms , neck, face and feet from hot brass being ejected by firearms in use near you.

Every firing range I have ever been to requires wearing of safety gear. You will be required to wear these items as soon as the range goes hot.

Let’s begin with safety glasses.

Wearing these is one of the smartest ways to protect your eyes from brass and other material being ejected from firearms in use around your area and even from the firearm you are practicing with.

Next required item is some form of hearing protection.

Some people use ear plugs, others will use noise cancelling earbuds and others will opt for headsets.

There are quite a few types of headsets. Some cancel noise from shots being fired around while others perform the additional function of enhancing conversation spoken in your area. This way you can speak with your buddies without having to remove your headset.

Finally, there will be a requirement to wear a collared shirt, a hat, and closed toe shoes.

The use of a ball cap or similar hat is to prevent burns on your forehead and head from hot brass.

And you will not be allowed to wear open-toed shoes. This way, hot brass casings ejected from a gun won’t land on your feet causing burns.

Remember, your kids, spouse and guests will have to abide by these rules as well.
